Question,
Does anyone know the procedure to flush out old hydraulic. We cleaned the tank out before, but would like to add flushing oil as manual states, but does not give any procedures. Not sure if we should run press with mixture of flush oil or just add into tank then remove and clean. Would really appreceiate any help if someone has done this before.

Did you get a test result prior to removing the oil? If needed you can rent an oil filtration to return your oil to good quality. Only a high Temperature (High acid) level is cause for removal and flushing. Contact your Hydraulic oil supplier or try Applied Technologies or similar company for testing and filtering. May not require even changing the oil. Monitor the temperature of the Oil while the Press is running and change the filter every 6 months at a min. Don’t forget to inspect the air filter at the fill port.

No we have not had the oil tested, two years ago we had the tank cleaned out their were around 1/4 inch sludge removed. Press has not been working proper spoken with Lavatec we've changed a lot parts, someone mentioned their may be some contaiminets in oil giving us some issues. Do you think we could just change filter again if their is some particles in system changed around 6-months ago. Appreceiate your response, again Thanks for help.

I would call your local oil supplier and ask for a company that can filter your oil in the tank as the press is running. What it consists of is a cart with an oil pump and filter cartages. They connect to the drain and deposit the oil back into the vent/fill pipe. What it does is clean out the oil as it is running thus prevents having to remove and clean components. If you are still having problems I strongly do this. If you have a local REXROTH rep they can steer you to a company that can do this or they can accomplish it. REXROLTH is the manufacture of the system - Pump, Valves, ECT. Testing will determine where the problems are. Let me know if this helps.

Thank you very much, will get right on with this, will let you know what comes about if we still have issues. One thing that is happening we currently set the sytem pressure at 240 we have small 551 press. We replaced the pump 6-months ago started having issues with slow pressing, lifting, etc. Changed main pressure regulator and the other three regulatoors, basket, bypass. Still had issues, upon speaking with lavatec and checking at top of press with ram down we did have some small leak back of fluid, so we changed the large threaded valve in top of ram. We also checked the bottom pipe of ram with it up no leak back. We had a tough time getting the amps in line with the recommended pressure, had a hydraulic company here adjusting the pump whenever we get the pressure correct 260 the amps would be steady 30- 40. Talk with Eric Lavatec he told us to back off reugulator it was all the way open. This helped get the amps back in line but was different then the setupp procedure lavatec sent us. Anyway still having some issues the press does not seem correct even though we press at 240 26-bar amps spike 25-30 then settle down then around 16.2 but as pressure comes up large spike in amps they say is correct. Today after 112 cycles the breaker on motor kicked twice, checked amps they were like before. Now we are confused would could the pump be having issues or would the motor, Engineering told me a motor would go all at once they dont think its the motor, but the pump seems ok no noise and good pressure. Sorry to ramble on but this has been a nigtmare of troulble we have had they system since new 1993. Any help would be appreceiated. Mike

Can you send me a copy of the Hydraulic Diagram for the 551 Press? I have worked on the 571 and 581 press and the highest pressure is the 581 at 255 Bar. Is your unit a variable displacement pump (Have A -12 card)? I believe that your pressure may be too high. May be 1 or more of the following. Check valve not working properly or clogged. Y 1 valve spool not shifting all the way. Throttle set too low or high Y 5 Valve not working properly. Hydraulic pump set improperly. With the sludge problem you had it would lead to a lot of these possibilities. I may be able to confirm some things after looking at your Hydraulic diagram. I assume it is basically the same as the 571 but wish to be sure. Nice Puzzle!! Glad to assist.

I dont think we ever flush it out, just change it per manual every so many (cant remember off hand) hours. 581 press.

We send the oil out to a lab for analysis and only change the oil when test results indicate that it is required.

What are the "pass/fail" limits that you have set for oil quality?
